'An Extension of Circumstance: Occlusion #4' (Gobo light, two HD screens, video projection: 40 mins)

the artist in Permittivity

I work with projection, light, moving image and photography, and utlise processes of mirroring, repetition, phasing and extended duration so that the perception of movement and stasis may become indistinguishable and the image and its subject begin to separate.

At the core of my work is the examination of difference between two points, or as Werner Nekes stated, 'Cinema is the difference between two frames.' I use doubling and alternation to frame liminal difference between points in time and positions in space. It is intended that these methods result in the perception of concurrencies, discrepancies and durational shifts between elements of the work, the viewer and the space of the encounter.

'An Extension of Circumstance: Occlusion #4' consists of three interrelated components that utilse temporal resolution and illusion to reveal degrees of difference between two points. The subtle durations in the work describe shifts between concurrency and alternation designed to frame the perception of liminal difference between points in time and positions in space.
